Silent Whale Watching
November to January
Watch the majestic Humpback and Killer Whales as they feed on the herring-rich fjords of Tromsø. The silent electric catamaran Brim allows you to get up close without disturbing the whales.
Brim offers a unique perspective on the feeding frenzy of Humpbacks and Orcas that come to Tromsø in the winter. We use a hybrid engine to reach the whale’s feeding grounds at Skjervøy in less than 3 hours and in time to enjoy the hours of daylight.
You can enjoy fresh pastries and coffee in the comfortable salons as you take in the spectacular Arctic morning light, sailing past snow-covered landscapes, the Lyngen Alps, islands, fjords and fishing villages.
There is a good chance of spotting white-tailed eagles, Europe’s largest bird of prey, and porpoises along the way. Our professional guide will give you an in-depth lecture about marine life during the trip. As we near the whales, our silent electric engine allows us to get close to these majestic animals without disturbing them. Our underwater drone and hydrophone will also be able to capture the whales communicating as they cooperate to hunt the herring in the deep narrow fjords.

Important Things to Note
This activity is conducted by our partner, Brim Explorer.
You will return early enough to join our Northern Lights chase in the evening.
If the whales are far away, we need to use our diesel engines for the transfer. On arrival to the whale site we cruise in silent electric mode.
If conditions allow it, we launch an underwater drone and hydrophone to capture the images and sounds both above and below the surface.
Exact season and duration depends on the whale migration patterns. In cases where this cruise does not operate, you can either join the Tromsø Fjord and Wildlife Cruise with a refund of the difference in price or cancel your booking with a full refund.
Please note that whales are wild animals, and constantly on the move. We can guarantee that we will do our best in finding them but cannot guarantee sightings.
