This is our newest tour, guided by the same expert tour guides as our small group chase, giving you an excellent chance of the Aurora.

After the tour starts from Tromsø's city center, we will drive to where we expect the best weather conditions that night. On the journey there you will learn about the Northern Lights and how to photograph them. We will be happy to answer all questions you might have.

Once we've found clear sky, we will stop and help you set up your cameras. If conditions allow, we will choose a scenic locations with a beautiful foreground. We will take portraits of the Northern Lights and you to share them after the trip.

We provide hot drinks as well as hot water that you can use to prepare your own meal. The bus is heated, so you can always warm up inside.

Frequently Asked Questions

general northern lights chase northern lights

  1. We don't charge tax on our tours and/or packages, and there are no additional charges for the prices listed on our website.

  2. The Northern Lights chase is suitable for pregnant mothers, and we have had a few pregnant mothers join us on our chases before. Walking is minimal too on the chases and we usually stay close to the car so you may always rest in the car if you need to.

If you are pregnant, you may want to skip the dogsledding and snowmobile daytrips as there is a risk from falling from both. It will be best if you could check with your doctor for medical advice prior to your trip.

  3. Northern Lights chase (Small group):
Tours taken in a comfortable 17-seater Mercedes Benz Sprinter that comes with an isle in the middle. We take a maximum of 13 guest for each trip and each group has a tour guide, and a designated driver. These cars provide comfort even during long chases to Finland or Sweden and allow everyone to use it for getting dressed or to rest. By using minibuses we are most flexible and the small group size guarantees a personal experience.

    Northern Lights chase (Big group):
Tours taken in a comfortable 45-seater bus, and we take a maximum of 40 guests for each trip. Each group has 1-2 tour guides, and a designated driver.

  4. Temperatures not only depend on the time you visit but often even more on the area we go to. The temperatures in and around Tromsø can sometimes be 30˚C warmer than the temperatures in Finland or Sweden, countries we regularly visit on our chase for clear sky. Therefore it’s impossible to say in advance what the temperatures are going to be like. September and October are by far the warmest months of the Aurora season. Preparing for the extreme is not necessary and the temperatures are usually between 0-10˚C (32-50˚F). Especially September can be a pleasant month for outdoor activities, during the day it can sometimes be as warm as 20˚C (68˚F). Wind and rain, however, should always be taken into consideration. In late October we expect the first light snow. November and December are the first winter months and now the temperatures start to drop. Especially when leaving Tromsø and the coast behind the temperatures can go below freezing. Once the temperatures are below 0˚C every precipitation turns into snow. Since it then sometimes gets warmer again, there may also be rain, mud and ice. In December we have to be prepared for temperatures similar to the ones in January and February. January and February are usually the coldest months of the season. While Tromsø rarely gets colder than -15˚C (5˚F), places in nearby Finland and Sweden can easily get down to -30˚C (-22˚F) or colder. While you should make some preparations yourself we provide most of the gear to keep you warm. This is the time to mention that we have not yet lost anyone on our chases! March and April are still winter months. The snow stays and the temperatures can be below or above freezing and we therefore have to be prepared for both rain and snow. Even though the Aurora season is coming to an end by April, Tromsø can be cold and chilly until June.
